When paraphrasing an article within your paper, use past tense.

Ex: The author discussed that you need to use APA correctly.

It is prefered to use the word "We" instead of using a passive tone when you are writing a paper with other authors.

Ex: We concluded that this is how to write a paper.

Not: The authors of this article concluded that this is not how to write a paper.
