Peer reviewed?

Quick tips for determining if a journal is peer-reviewed:

1. In a print copy, look for the mission/purpose statement - does it state it is "refereed" or peer-reviewed?

2. On the article itself, check for "date submitted" and "date accepted for publication"

3. Check the journal's website and examine editorial statements or instructions to authors

4.  Use Ulrich's Periodical Directory (link below).

5.  Ask a faculty member or other expert in the field.

Even if a journal is peer-reviewed, not every article in the journal may have gone through a review process - usually only original research and review/systematic review articles are refereed.
