Getting articles/books that are not free online

Many scholarly books and articles are not free. The Library can get them for you at no cost to you, though, so don't pay for them! Here is how to get access:

1. Double-check that we don't have access at Pacific. Go to: http://pacificu.edu/libraries and search for the title in the main "Boxer Search" box.

2. Be sure to LOG IN as a Pacific student. If you don't, our systems will not know that you deserve access to all of our paid subscription databases!

3. If you see a record for the item you need, look at the dot below it:

  • Green dot: We have it at Pacific.
Electronic items can be opened by clicking on ACCESS OPTIONS > Then one of the database names in Red
Physical items can be borrowed in person. Look at the Call Number, then go to the 2nd floor of the library and browse to that location on the shelves. Need help? An assistant from our front desk can point you in the right direction.
  • Yellow dot: Another library in our network has it.
Click on "Availability and Request Options" then "Request from Summit." Most items arrive within a few days. You will receive an email when it is ready.

4. Can't find it or are getting other errors? Get it through "Interlibrary Loan"

  • Go to our Interlibrary Loan service
  • The first time you log in, you'll have to create an account. After the first time, you'll just have to log in.
  • Need a journal article? Go to New Request > Copy Request. Fill out the form with as much information as you have about the article. It will be sent to you as a PDF as soon as possible. (Often within days; sometimes takes longer if it is a rare source.)
  • Need a book or other physical item? Go to New Request > Loan Request. Fill out the form with as much information as you can. Our staff will find another library that can loan you the item, using a network of thousands of libraries around the world. This option can take longer, depending on how hard the item is to find and how far away it is.
