Introduction to the research process

The Biology 201 Lab resource site guides you through the various aspects to research, from creating your Interlibrary Loan account to using a database for articles to tracking down citations.

IDENTIFY a research topic (or a general idea, which is enough to get started)

Primary versus secondary resources


USE simple search terms (AKA keywords or NOUNS).

 


APPLY different search strategies to expand, narrow, or focus search.

Truncation (adolescen*) | Phrase searches ("social media")


USE different resources for articles.

Web of Science | BISOS Citation Index | Google Scholar | Dissertations and Theses Global

 



TRACK citations used in articles' bibliography.

 


REVISE search as needed.
