Overview
Teach Back is an evidence-based and highly effective communication technique to promote patient understanding, when used correctly in the clinical setting. Studies show that most patients retain very little of the information shared during a clinical encounter. Teach Back helps patients solidify the steps they need to take for good self-care. Teach back is also known by other names such as "Show Me"; "Ask Tell Ask" and "Chunk and Check." Let's hardwire the teach back technique for the next generation of healthcare practitioners to promote patient understanding and action.
