Requesting and Accessing Digital Media

Requesting Streaming Videos

We welcome instructors to request streaming access to videos for their courses. You can place requests for particular titles through our Purchase Request page. Here is some useful information about these requests:

  • First, search in the library catalog to see if the library already has the title as a streaming video. Through Academic Video Online (AVON) and other resources, the library provides access to thousands of streaming videos in multiple genres and subject areas.
  • Most single-video library licenses are for a fixed period of time, usually 1 year.
  • Sometimes, we are not able to license films, documentaries, or clips, due to limits in availability or budget.
  • Streaming video requests can take longer to process than other requests, so a few weeks or more of lead time is ideal.
  • At this time, we are focused on filling streaming video requests in support of courses, when use of DVDs is not feasible.
  • A note about DVDs: If a DVD can meet the needs of your students and course design, we encourage the use of physical media. The price point is much lower than the cost of institutional streaming video content, and the library owns, rather than leases, physical media. However, if a DVD will not work for your class, we are happy to explore streaming video options.
  • If you are using, or plan to use, a library streaming video as part of your curriculum for an upcoming class, please let us know at librarycms@pacificu.edu, so we can do our best to ensure continuity of access.

  • Streaming video titles currently licensed by Pacific, either on one-year licenses or on a subscription basis, are searchable and accessible through the library catalog
  • If you want to provide a link to your class, we recommend using the Permalink option for that title in the library catalog.
