What is PICO?

Evidence Based Medicine or Evidence Based Practice is a clinical decision-making process and the PICO question plays an important role in that process. PICO is a framework for asking a clinical question which is composed of four key elements (Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) relevant to your patient or client case. PICO makes searching explicit by stating the type of questions and levels of evidence you are seeking, thus helping you to form a focused question that will help you with your search and retrieval of relevant results.
